Danish Fintech Start-up Accelerates Global Expansion to Automate Financial Compliance for Banks
The landscape of financial regulation is shifting as Copenhagen-based start-up Spektr announces a successful $20 million Series A funding round. Led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), with support from heavyweights like Northzone, Seedcamp, and PSV Tech, the investment marks a significant milestone for the Danish company aiming to redefine how the world handles financial risk.
Solving the Compliance Bottleneck
For years, banks and fintech companies have struggled with the manual intensity of KYC (Know Your Customer) and KYB (Know Your Business) protocols. According to Spektr’s CEO and co-founder, Mikkel Skarnager, the industry has focused too much on the “pipes” (workflow) and not enough on the “work.”
“The real bottleneck has always been the work itself—analysts researching companies, interpreting information, and documenting decisions,” Skarnager explains.
Spektr’s platform utilizes specialized AI agents designed to mimic the cognitive tasks of a human financial analyst. While traditional methods take hours to gather data and generate risk assessments, Spektr’s AI completes these tasks in minutes, allowing compliance teams to pivot from data gathering to final decision-making.
Global Ambitions and Top-Tier Partnerships
The new capital injection will be used to:
- Scale the AI platform specifically for complex banking and fintech requirements.
- Accelerate global adoption across international financial institutions.
- Enhance product capabilities for automated risk reporting.
Spektr’s leadership team—comprising Skarnager, Ciprian Florescu (CTO), Jan-Erik Wagner (CRO), and Jeremy Joly (CPO)—has already proven the model’s efficacy. The company boasts an impressive roster of live customers, including Santander Leasing, Pleo, Mercuryo, and Phantom.
A New Era for Financial Services
As regulatory pressure mounts, the demand for high-efficiency tools is at an all-time high. Luke Pappas, a partner at NEA, highlights that Spektr is tackling the most manual, labor-intensive part of operations. By automating the research and verification process, Spektr isn’t just saving time; it is redefining the operational standard for the entire financial services sector.
By replacing tedious manual labor with intelligent automation, Spektr is positioning itself as the backbone of the next generation of financial compliance.
