Indian space startup Skyroot Aerospace has raised $60 million in new funding, officially becoming India’s first space unicorn with a valuation of $1.1 billion, marking a major milestone in the country’s rapidly expanding space startup ecosystem.

The latest funding round highlights strong global investor confidence in India’s private space industry, which continues to attract significant capital and strategic interest.

The round was co-led by GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, and Sherpalo Ventures. It also saw participation from:

With the new funding, Skyroot Aerospace has crossed a valuation of $1.1 billion, officially becoming India’s first space unicorn startup.

The company has nearly doubled its valuation in just 30 months, reflecting strong momentum in the Indian space technology sector and growing global interest in private launch capabilities.


Scaling India’s Private Space Launch Capability

Skyroot Aerospace will use the fresh capital to expand its operations, including:

  • Scaling the Vikram-1 launch program
  • Increasing manufacturing capacity
  • Advancing development of Vikram-2 rocket system
  • Expanding its Hyderabad-based infrastructure

The company operates a 250,000 sq ft facility in Hyderabad, designed to support high-frequency launch operations and rapid assembly cycles.


Vikram-1 Launch and Global Ambitions

Skyroot is preparing for the upcoming launch of Vikram-1, which is expected to take place shortly after this funding announcement.

Over time, the company aims to achieve a 72-hour assembly-to-launch cycle, significantly improving launch efficiency in the space startup industry.

CEO and co-founder Pawan Kumar Chandana stated that Skyroot is targeting four to six launches per year, depending on early mission performance.


Growing Global Demand for Space Launch Services

Skyroot Aerospace is already seeing international demand for its launch services from multiple regions, including:

  • Japan
  • United States
  • Europe

According to the company, approximately one-third of demand is expected to come from India, while the majority will be driven by international customers.
