London-Based Startup Receives Investment to Empower Developers with Predictable, Controllable AI Agents
Portia AI, a London-based open-source startup, has successfully raised €5.1 million in startup funding to help developers build production-ready AI agents that are predictable, controllable, and securely authenticated. This round of funding was led by General Catalyst, with participation from First Minute Capital and Stem AI.
Democratizing AI Agent Deployment for Developers
Portia AI, co-founded by Emma Burrows (former Stripe UK CTO) and Mounir Mouawad (ex-Stripe and Google), offers an open-source SDK to simplify AI agent deployment for all developers. Their goal is to democratize AI integration, making it accessible even to those without deep expertise. The core product is available on GitHub, with cloud features for streamlined deployment.
Closing the Gap in AI Agent Control and Oversight
Portia AI addresses the challenge of AI agent predictability and oversight, ensuring reliable, controlled, and compliant agents for real-world deployment. With their solutions, companies can build transparent, collaborative AI agents, particularly in regulated industries like financial services, overcoming the limitations of traditional “black box” systems.
The Role of Startup Funding in Portia AI’s Growth
With the fresh startup funding, Portia AI plans to expand its team and launch several new features later this year. This funding will allow the company to continue building its community of developers and strengthen its position as a leader in AI agent development.
Juliet Bailin, Partner at General Catalyst, expressed confidence in Portia AI’s future:
“Emma and Mounir are brilliantly positioned to build a generational company. Their vision for intelligent automation is expansive, and we’re thrilled to be a part of their journey.”
Portia AI, which emerged from stealth mode in March 2025, is now working with design partners and rapidly expanding its user base.
