Apple Expands Renewable Energy Projects and Supports Green Startups in India Ahead of 2030 Carbon Neutral Goal
Apple has announced a major green energy investment in India, committing Rs 100 crore to expand renewable energy infrastructure and support environmentally focused startups across the country.
The initiative marks another major step in Apple’s global push toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 while strengthening its rapidly growing manufacturing and supply chain presence in India.
The investment will be carried out in partnership with CleanMax and is expected to add more than 150 megawatts of renewable energy capacity nationwide.
According to the company, the new renewable infrastructure could generate enough clean electricity to power nearly 150,000 households every year.
Apple Expands Clean Energy in India
Apple stated that the renewable energy partnership aims to accelerate clean energy adoption throughout its India-based supply chain.
The company has already worked with CleanMax on rooftop solar projects that currently power Apple offices and retail stores in India using 100% renewable energy.
As Apple continues expanding operations through manufacturing partners such as Foxconn and Tata Electronics, sustainability is becoming a central part of its long-term strategy in the region.
The company says its environmental goals are not only reducing emissions but also driving innovation across operations and supply networks worldwide.
Supporting Green Startups and Sustainable Innovation
In addition to renewable energy projects, Apple is also investing in India’s growing ecosystem of green startups.
The company is collaborating with Acumen to provide grants, mentorship, and strategic guidance to six early-stage startups focused on:
- Waste management
- Circular economy solutions
- Regenerative agriculture
- Sustainable livelihoods
The initiative is designed to help emerging businesses scale innovative environmental solutions while contributing to India’s broader sustainability goals.
Apple also highlighted several Indian social enterprises it has previously supported, including:
- Saptkrishi, which develops affordable farm storage systems
- Yotuh Energy, which builds electric refrigerated transport vehicles
- MOWO Fleet, which supports women entrepreneurs through electric vehicle driving opportunities
Recycling and Waste Management Expansion
Apple is also broadening its environmental partnership with World Wide Fund for Nature India to improve recycling and waste management systems.
The company plans to expand existing projects that aim to reduce plastic leakage into ecosystems and improve waste collection infrastructure.
An ongoing initiative in Goa with waste management company Saahas Zero Waste is now being extended to additional regions including Coimbatore.
Apple’s Global Climate Goals
Globally, Apple says it has already reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60% compared to 2015 levels, even while company revenue increased significantly during the same period.
The latest investment in India highlights how major technology companies are increasingly combining business expansion with sustainability and clean energy development.
As India continues emerging as a major manufacturing and technology hub, Apple’s investments in renewable energy and green innovation could help accelerate the country’s transition toward a more sustainable economy.
