Swiss company pioneers liquid chip cooling technology, adds Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to its board to scale innovation

As artificial intelligence drives up computing power, the world’s biggest tech companies are racing to solve one critical challenge: heat. This week, Swiss startup Corintis announced a $24 million Series A funding round and the addition of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to its board, marking a major step forward in the battle to keep semiconductors cool.

Breaking New Ground in Chip Cooling

Founded in 2022 as a spin-off from Lausanne’s Federal Institute of Technology, Corintis has developed a breakthrough liquid cooling system that runs coolant through microscopic channels inside computer chips, rather than just across the surface. This innovation removes hot spots, reduces power and water consumption, and delivers up to three times more efficiency than traditional cooling methods, according to tests run by Microsoft, one of Corintis’ early customers.

Unlike conventional liquid cooling, which only pulls heat from the surface, Corintis’ approach integrates directly into the chip. The company also produces cold plates—metal blocks that transfer chip heat into circulating liquid—that can serve as drop-in upgrades for existing data center systems.

Scaling to Meet Surging AI Demand

As AI chips from companies like Nvidia push power demands to unprecedented levels, cooling has become a bottleneck for performance and a burden on global energy grids. Corintis, valued at around $400 million after the new round, is positioning itself as a leader in this fast-growing market.

The company currently produces about 100,000 cold plates per year, with plans to ramp up to 1 million annually by 2026. Its team, now at 55 employees, will expand to 70 by year’s end, alongside new U.S. offices to serve its growing American customer base.

Strong Backing and Leadership

The Series A was led by BlueYard Capital, with participation from Founderful, Acequia Capital, Celsius Industries, and XTX Ventures. With the addition of Lip-Bu Tan—also chairman of Walden International—and Geoff Lyon, founder of liquid cooling pioneer CoolIT, to its board, Corintis has secured both financial strength and unmatched industry expertise.

A Cool Future for Hot Chips

As AI continues to reshape industries, the need for smarter, greener cooling solutions will only accelerate. With fresh capital, industry veterans, and breakthrough technology, Corintis looks set to become a defining player in the next generation of chip cooling innovation.
